Papillion & La Vista
ABOUT PAPILLION
Papillion is located South of Omaha and West of Bellevue between Capehart and Giles Rd and roughly between 48th to 144th Streets. Papillion was platted in the 1870's by French explorers and, like many cities in Nebraska, it was developed as a railroad town. Papillion's name is derived fro the French word from butterfly; it is documented that French explorers saw many butterflies along the Papillion (Papio) Creek. Today, Papillion is home to about 25,000+ people, has a lot of new construction residential development, and is home to Papillion La Vista Community Schools. Fun Fact: Many residents refer to Papillion as "Papio".
THINGS TO DO IN PAPILLION
In the center of the city you will find Halleck Park, a 70 acre park featuring tennis, volleyball, and pickleball courts, walking paths, playgrounds, baseball and softball fields, fishing, picnic areas, and more. Next to Halleck Park is Papio Fun Park, Papio Bay Aquatic Center, and Papio Bowl. Enjoy a round of golf at Tara Hills Golf Course. Some of our favorite restaurants and coffee shops are: The Beanery, Graley's Creamery & Confections, Talus Spirits & Sustenance, and Just Pop'd Popcorn.
ABOUT LA VISTA
La Vista is bordered by Omaha and Ralston, Papillion and Bellevue. It is a much younger city in comparison to Papillion and was founded in 1959 by a developer. La Vista was named "the view" after the scenic view the future residents would have of the Big Papio Creek; by 1960 the first homes were officially built and residents moved in shortly after.
THINGS TO DO IN LA VISTA
La Vista is full of local breweries and locally owned watering holes; Lucky Bucket Brewing Co., Kros Strain Brewing, Nebraska Brewing Company and Heights Draft Room are some of our favorites.
